Rate Yourself: Courage (8/19/2017)

SALUTATIONS: Hello everyone, happy Sabbath! I hope that yall had a wonderful week. If you're interested in visiting a new church, you're always welcome to attend my church's worship service Saturdays at 11:30 am at Mt. Rubidoux SDA Church, 5320 Victoria Ave., Riverside, CA, 92506; if you cannot make it to church, you can also visit online via the live stream at http://rubitv.tv or to simply check out some of the archived sermons. Hope to see you there. Be safe and responsible this weekend, and try to relax, stress less, and trust God more.

PRAYER REQUESTS: Continue praying for one another, thanking Yahweh for the victory while refraining from confessing the problem caused by the enemy; ALWAYS pray for your desired result, NOT the unfavorable outcome (refer to the book The Tongue – A Creative Forceby Charles Capps; you can buy it here https://goo.gl/NWEf7i)

PRAISE REPORTS: GOD IS GOOD ALL THE TIME!

BE ENCOURAGED: NEVER lose sight of God in the midst of adversity … Ponder this: “Happiness is a choice. You can choose to be happy. There's going to be stress in life, but it's YOUR CHOICE whether you let it affect you or not” (Valerie Bertinelli). I'm no theological scholar, and even if I were a pastor or an expert on God's word, I would still advise you NEVER to take someone else's word as solid truth; "Study to show thyself approved" (II Timothy 2:15), and CHALLENGE EVERYTHING by comparing it to the Word of God. If what you see, hear or read does NOT fall in line with the Word of God, then it is NOT true... The rest of this day isn't promised, let alone tomorrow, so why not strengthen your faith TODAY? Feed your body healthy nutrition, be cautious of what things you allow your eyes, ears, and spirit to be exposed to (e.g. media, books, TV, music, etc.) so that you can start anew and become a better you NOW, not later.

OPENING PRAYER: Yahweh, please clear our minds and open our eyes, ears, and hearts so that we may see, hear, and receive your intended message from this fellowship. In the name of Yeshua, Amen!

PASSAGE – I CHRONICLES 28:20: "Be strong and of good courage, and do it: fear not, nor be dismayed: for the Lord God, even my God, will be with thee; He will not fail thee, nor forsake thee, until thou hast finished all the work for the service of the house of the Lord."

REFLECTIONS:
I can tell yall from personal experience that it is our character that plays the most significant role in how God views us; character is deeper than a mere conversation topic to ignite one's intellect. In fact, "character" runs so deep that it is within us - it is who we are as individuals when we assume no one is watching. Our characters define who we are as a whole; how we think, speak, act, and react in public, but more specifically, how we behave behind closed doors. Today begins a new series entitled "Rate Yourself," where we will explore various aspects of character; you will consider how you would rank yourself on each of them, and make a note of the Bible verses for those aspects of character on which you feel that you need help.

After reviewing this week's passage, how would you rate yourself on courage? How many of you say you believe that God is real and that Jesus died and rose again for our sins, yet, still have harbored doubt or disbelief in His power over certain situations? I'll be the first to admit it, I reason with God a lot; I stress over problems I've prayed over and "left at the altar." Why? Because of my unbelief. What other spiritual reasoning could there be? So on courage, I give myself about 5.5; I have enough courage to do some of the things God asks of me, such as the production of this online ministry, opting for unconventional parenting, and adopting healthy lifestyle changes. However, it is a daily struggle to "stand still and wait on the Lord" knowing that despite my years of experience and education, I have yet to land gainful employment. Meanwhile, my bills are still piling up. So, unfortunately, I waver in my faith because I don't want to lose another worldly possession. But then I have to give myself a reality check, no matter how hard the pill is to swallow: (1) WORLDLY POSSESSIONS ARE TEMPORAL; (2) salvation is eternal and "all things work together for good to them that love God" (Romans 8:28). Thus, NO MATTER WHAT OR WHO GOD removes from our lives, the end result is something far better than we could have ever imagined in this lifetime.

I Corinthians 15:58 says, "Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord." That Word doesn't say 'sometimes abounding' it says "ALWAYS ABOUNDING," meaning that our work for the Lord should be plentiful and continuous without wavering. I know what I said in my previous statement, that's me being transparent. I said it before, and I'll say it again, I AM NO SAINT, BUT I STRIVE TO BE BETTER. This ministry is one that we should be using to encourage one another to be changed - to be better than we were last week. "So be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid and do not panic before them. For the Lord your God will personally go ahead of you. He will neither fail you nor abandon you" (Deuteronomy 31:6, NLT), "Be on guard. Stand firm in the faith. Be courageous. Be strong" (I Corinthians 16:13, NLT), and "Wait patiently for the Lord. Be brave and courageous. Yes, wait patiently for the Lord" (Psalm 27:14, NLT).

I will end this lesson on "courage" with these encouraging scriptures taken from the NLT version of the Bible:
  • Ephesians 6:10: "A final word: Be strong in the Lord and in His mighty power."
  • Isaiah 54:4: "Fear not; you will no longer live in shame. Don’t be afraid; there is no more disgrace for you. You will no longer remember the shame of your youth..."
  • Psalm 27:1: "The Lord is my light and my salvation—so why should I be afraid? The Lord is my fortress, protecting me from danger, so why should I tremble?"
  • Psalm 56:3-4: "But when I am afraid, I will put my trust in you. I praise God for what He has promised. I trust in God, so why should I be afraid? What can mere mortals do to me?"
  • **II Timothy 1:7: "For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline." **
  • Isaiah 41:10-13: "Don’t be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand. See, all your angry enemies lie there, confused and humiliated. Anyone who opposes you will die and come to nothing. You will look in vain for those who tried to conquer you. Those who attack you will come to nothing. For I hold you by your right hand—I, the Lord your God. And I say to you, ‘Don’t be afraid. I am here to help you.'"
  • **Proverbs 3:5-6: "Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek His will in all you do, and He will show you which path to take."**
  • **Psalm 23: "The Lord is my shepherd; I have all that I need. He lets me rest in green meadows; He leads me beside peaceful streams. He renews my strength. He guides me along right paths, bringing honor to His name. Even when I walk through the darkest valley, I will not be afraid, for you are close beside me. Your rod and your staff protect and comfort me. You prepare a feast for me in the presence of my enemies. You honor me by anointing my head with oil. My cup overflows with blessings. Surely your goodness and unfailing love will pursue me all the days of my life, and I will live in the house of the Lord forever."**

POWER IN PRAYER:
Yahweh, we thank you for reversing the suffering among us, from the bondage of strongholds, addiction, anger, resentment, heartache, debilitating ailments, pain, sorrow, financial debt, worry, fear, stress, anxiety, and depression; we praise you for releasing the shackles placed on us by evil forces, and for removing every demonic attachment from each individual reciting this prayer, and for the people that we stand in intercessory prayer for. Place an extra hedge of protection over our children, our households, our modes of transportation, and our surroundings; may we forever be fixed on Jesus, with a well-developed courage that allows us to pursue your will and to apply every element of change that you see fit into our daily lifestyles. Baptize us with your indwelling Spirit, and cause us take heed to His promptings. Keep us humble, focused, disciplined, and driven as we work to become everything you have called us to be. Provide each of us with the skill to balance our personal, professional, and spiritual lives as guided by you. Transform and convert us 100% according to your will. Achieve in us the ability to pray game-changing prayers – prayers that change people, change outcomes, and help your will to manifest. We grant your angels permission to do our bidding on earth and we thank you for protecting us from its recourse. For everyone and everything we have failed to pray for, we ask that you do not fail to address the concern. This is our trusted prayer, we submit to you in the matchless name of Yeshua, Amen!

HEALTHY LIVING TIPS:
Change begins within … Contrary to popular belief, supplements are NOT a good substitute for vitamins naturally found in a plant-based diet. So instead of consuming vitamin D supplements or drinking gallons of milk and dairy, try spending 15-20 minutes a day in direct sunlight WITHOUT toxic sunscreen; butters like shea and cocoa tend to contain natural traces of SPF. Consuming whole grains such as quinoa and brown rice provide your body with fiber, B vitamins, antioxidants, protein, and other trace minerals. Foods such as beans and broccoli contain fiber, protein, and calcium. Vegetarianism and veganism lifestyles may be unappealing to the average carnivore, but check out the documentary "What the Health" on Netflix," it will enlighten you on some of the benefits of adopting a plant-based diet: reversal of diseases; decreasing cholesterol; lowering risks for heart disease; increasing your lifespan.
