Your Mess is Your Message (1/24/2021)

SALUTATIONS: Hey yall, I hope that you've had a wonderful week thus far, even if you haven't, just because you cannot see the beauty in today, don't you pass on your negativity to someone who can. Remember, without tests, there are no testimonies and without a mess, there is no message. This week we'll explore how our mess is part of the message. Let's get into it. As always, I'd appreciate you taking a moment to review ALL of the AnnouncementsHealthy Living Tips, and other information detailed below, following the Reflections and Power in Prayer, whenever time permits. Your continued support is always appreciated. Keep spreading God's Gospel and feel free to share the Scripture of the Week with the hashtag SOW. Enjoy! **Disclaimer: Production and distribution days of the SOW are subject to change without warning**

PRAISE REPORTS: I just wanted to praise God for allowing Kaiser to approve assistance for a bill I accrued from an overnight stay in ER due to an inexplicable case of low blood pressure and extreme fatigue. Technically speaking, I'm considered low-income. In my field, at this particular company that I'm employed by, I only get paid when I see a client. That being said, this Covid-19 shutdown has decreased my hours at work significantly causing me to have to utilize EDD benefits; some weeks I work a total of about 9 hours, imagine that paycheck. I received a bill from my July hospitalization which exceeded $500, and one of my BFFs who works for Kaiser told me to hold off and fill out some paperwork for a program they have. I applied for the assistance program, yet, I received several bills thereafter. My friend kept telling me to ignore them, so I did... mercy... why is it that we aren't so easily compelled to "ignore" our problems when we present them before God in prayer? Anyway, fast forward to two weeks ago, I got a phone call from my friend informing me that I'd been approved and my Kaiser bill had been PAID IN FULL. YO! How much more will God provide if/when we TRUST His process? Take a moment to think about a time in your life that God came through; if your circumstance right now outweighs that time, then I submit for your consideration that your today was someone else's tomorrow that NEVER came. In other words, someone is NOT breathing today because yesterday, they went to sleep and never woke up, or, they lost consciousness and never regained it. Because we have life today, God deserves our praise. Abba, Father, we praise you through our struggles, we thank you for our past trials, our current obstacles, and our future triumphs. Continue to mend our unbelief. Hallelujah, all thanks be to you! If you have a specific praise report, please share, because we “overcame [the adversary] by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of [our] testimony” (Revelation 12:11). **NOTE: All praise reports are shared with reference to your name unless anonymity is specified**

PRAYER REQUESTS: Last week's The Curse is Broken support meeting introduced me to a young lady whose name shall remain anonymous since I haven't gotten her permission to use it here. This young lady needs prayer of healing and peace due to the loss of her child back in 2018 due to negligence; she had a rare condition that required her to be placed in a healthcare facility whose negligence led to her passing shortly after turning one. The child was placed in the facility because the young lady had reached out to family and friends to take back-up training so that the child could be sent home to her mother's care, but none were willing. This young lady is hoping the facility is shut down, as they are also responsible for the death of 3 other children. I do not know the name of the facility and forgot the state, but God knows. This same young lady is also in need of a financial breakthrough so that her living circumstances may improve; she's currently residing with a family member whose home has traces of black mold. Since we are a community of believers and prayer warriors, let us love on this young lady by lifting her and her family up in prayer. God knows her name and the full extent of her circumstance, He's using us as vessels to give her suffering a voice. Let us also continue praying for one another and thanking Yahweh for the victory while refraining from confessing the problem caused by the enemy; ALWAYS pray for the desired result, NOT the unfavorable outcome (refer to the book The Tongue – A Creative Force, by Charles Capps; you can download your FREE copy here https://rb.gy/niy4go). If you or someone you know needs prayer, let me know, and your request will be added to the following SOW. **NOTE: All prayer requests are shared with reference to your name and need unless anonymity is specified**

BE ENCOURAGED: NEVER lose sight of God amidst adversity… Ponder this: "The universe is made of stories, not atoms." (Muriel Rukeyser). I'm no theological scholar, and even if I were a pastor or an expert on God's word, I would still advise you NEVER to take someone else's word as solid truth; "Study to show thyself approved" (2 Timothy 2:15), and CHALLENGE EVERYTHING by comparing it to the Word of God. If what you see, hear, or read does NOT fall in line with the Word of God, then it is NOT true... The rest of this day isn't promised, let alone tomorrow, so why not strengthen your faith TODAY? Feed your body healthy nutrition, be cautious of what things you allow your eyes, ears, and spirit to be exposed to (e.g., media, books, TV, music, etc.) so that YOU can start anew and become a better you NOW, rather than later. If you need someone to help you get there, or you're looking for an accountability partner, you've come to the right place. Here I am.

FEATURED SONGS OF PRAISE: "I'll Find You" by Lecrae (feat. Tori Kelly) (you can listen to it here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jv8IqJm6q7w) and "My Testimony" by Elevation Worship (you can listen to it here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tyACLVtv8tw). I would also like to recommend Classical for Studying Radio on Pandora to better facilitate your meditation on the Word as you study, you can listen to that station here https://rb.gy/wtbmva.

OPENING PRAYER: Yahweh, please let your presence set the tone for how this lesson will flow and how we will grow from it. Clear our mind and open our eyes, ears, and heart so that we may be decreased in self and increased in you. Fill us with your presence through the Holy Spirit to see as we look, to listen as we hear, to come into alignment with your word and your will, to receive, believe, and apply your truth, that we may be transformed by your intended message from this fellowship and become better as a result of it. In the name of Yeshua, Amen!

PASSAGE(S) – REVELATION 12:11"And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death."

**Unless otherwise indicated all Scripture quotations are taken from the King James Version (KJV) of the Bible retrieved from https://www.biblegateway.com/passage**

REFLECTIONS: Have you ever wondered why some churches have a time for testimony? I mean, how is someone else's story significant to you? Our testimonies combine context of critical events and results whether good or bad, expected or unexpected. Perhaps one person's story means nothing to you directly, however, over your lifetime you'll find that we are all linked through our causal explanations of our life's stories. Our testimonies come from a test we may have failed yet eventually overcame. Our mess of a story is what provides the message for someone else experiencing a mirrored circumstance or something similar. Testimonies emphasize that life is an interconnected system, which is why it's important we not attempt to live life alone. I'm not suggesting those of you who are single find a significant other. I am, however, encouraging everyone to do life with someone other than yourself; establish a circle of friends who are like-minded and will add to your life not take away from it. Surround yourself in environments that facilitate personal, spiritual, mental, and/or emotional growth. It is possible to be single and content, but it is impossible to do life alone. You cannot have a successful business without consumers. You cannot build a circle, start a family, nor impact others without having others to DO that with. Through those formed relationships and shared testimonies, we edify one another and begin to see our planted seeds start to grow; our mess sprouts a message for someone that God assigned to us specifically. If you never experienced your unfavorable or unexpected circumstance, then you'd never have the words, experience, passion, or compassion needed to help nurse someone else through their own situation; your mess is the message

As a victim of childhood sexual abuse, and adolescent verbal and emotional abuse, I questioned God's motives. Yes, I displayed insolence over the years as I placed the blame for my misfortunes on the Lord. Yes, it is true that as an innocent child, an adult tainted my innocence, which developed into an unhealthy prowess in settling for toxic flesh-driven relationships. But "every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows" (James 1:17NIV). Although the Lord will allow us to endure that which we can handle (read 1 Corinthians 10:13 here https://rb.gy/nvoxhq), it is not He who presents the trial it is the adversary. Throughout the Bible we see how Satan tests God's people; in the Book of Job, we see that Satan was granted permission to test but not harm Job physically (read Job 1:8-12NIV, here https://rb.gy/qancjj). In the Book of Matthew we see how Satan even tempts Jesus in the wilderness (read Matthew 4:1-11NIV, here https://rb.gy/bk9fc3), but the king of darkness has to seek permission from the Almighty King - the Father of ALL, to even present these trials (read Job: 1:12Mark 1:27, and Daniel 4:17NLT, here https://rb.gy/ui4lop).

We are all built differently but equipped the same - with God's power and authority over our words through Christ Jesus. We're placed in the time we are able to handle. I wasn't built for slavery else God would've borne me to a slave. I wasn't meant to be MLK or Rosa Parks. I was purposed to be me, in this day and age to help generations like me to overcome generational cycles and help bring awareness to the way out that we've become blind to. I believe that as children, we are allowed to experience certain hardships to fuel a passion that develops a skill to serve others who have similar stories. On the other hand, as adults, we are allowed to be tested and tried to learn a much-needed lesson that also prepares us for service to others. Take a moment to think about a time where God allowed you to be tested. For me, I was about 18 years old. I had been learning about fornication in church...

WARNING: The following content may contain elements that are not suitable for some eyes, reader discretion is advised. Now back to our regularly scheduled program...

At a time in my life when all of my peers were discussing sexual activities, I had a boyfriend who may have been perceived as a bit possessive, yet I never felt disrespected or abused. Mind you, my peers had been discussing intimacy as early as 7th grade, and by that time I was a senior. If you haven't already deduced, I was also a virgin. Fast forward, I met this other guy who was the total opposite of anyone I'd ever been interested in before. For some reason, I was intrigued. When he said his name, he was chewing on gum, and a scene from one of my favorite movies, The Five Heartbeats, flashed into my head. It was the scene where Choir Boy started feeling himself when he took over as lead singer in replacement of Eddie King aka "Eddie Kang Junior," and he was trying to impress this chick. But that's neither here nor there. After a few conversations with the new guy, male cousins, and some of my peers, on separate occasions, I'd come to the conclusion that my boyfriend must be gay if he turned down the opportunity to try to take my virginity, right? I didn't have a legit reason to break-up with him, so I started being a jerk until I pushed him away. I allowed myself to accept the suggestions of those around me as truth. Additionally, I had been a firm believer that women need to take responsibility for their role in some of the inappropriate behaviors men might display towards them (e.g., dressing half-naked at the club, grinding during a dance, etc.); after a meeting at the new guy's home and engaging in an intimate kiss, he told me that I was teasing him and causing blue balls. "What the heck does blue balls meanIt sounds serious, I cannot be responsible for that. If he rapes me, it would be my fault for teasing him" I thought to myself. That guilt from my ignorant way of thinking led me to give my virginity to a stranger, which according to my friends was a good thing because then there'd be no attachments afterward. Boy were they WRONG!

In hindsight, I realize that my ex-boyfriend merely respected my spiritual journey and recognized that mentally, sex wasn't something I was prepared for. He must have recognized that truthfully, despite my curiosity at the time, I was disinterested in the act itself. The new guy, however, manipulated my naivety, belittled me, and contributed to low self-esteem that 22 years later, I'm still working to improve. Contrary to my friends' advice on losing one's virginity to a stranger, I fell head over heels in love and lost myself in him the way I should've been focused on losing myself to God (read Matthew 10:39 here https://rb.gy/ebzz03), putting him above myself and everything else in my life. Over time, God revealed to me that because I sought attention from man, it is man who continuously hurts me. I suppose that's why Psalm 118:8 (read it here https://rb.gy/ii249v) is still my favorite scripture. Though sexual abuse in my innocence led to many poor decisions in adolescence and adulthood, I knew that I had a choice, I just think my spiritual disconnect caused me to lack its understanding.

Now back to you, have you reflected on a moment God allowed you to be tested? If you failed, do you recall your way out? Even though I failed to recognize red flags and exits many times thereafter, in hindsight, when I reflect on my tests and trials, I am also able to recognize the out that God provided yet I ignored. In the previous example, there were several ways out. First, I shouldn't have ever given the new guy my number. Despite the new guy's persistence I should've stood firm in my rejection since I had a boyfriend; having a boyfriend was my way out. Second, when he told me he was getting blue balls I should've just apologized and went on bout' my business. But I didn't and what was done cannot be undone. Fortunately, we don't need to dwell on the shoulda, coulda, wouldas, nor repeat the same tests over and over. I mean, at the end of the day, we all have choices and those decisions lead to good or bad outcomes. For every action is a consequence that'll either be positive or negative. Therefore, we have to consider the outcome beforehand and move forward in our decisions wisely, with God's compass directing our stepsRather than succumbing to pity parties, dwelling in the past, or swimming in the rivers of depression over things that can no longer be changed, we need to focus our attention on God to fine-tune our discernment so that we can recognize the obstacle and its way out before we even reach it.

Our accounts of life impact everything we do; how well you tell your story can make the difference in all facets of life, whether that is convincing someone to invest their time in you intimately, becoming a consumer of a product or business you’ve launched, the legacy you leave behind, or how well you impact those around you. Our stories connect us by revealing our common ground. Our testimonies help inspire others. The more we share our truths, we weaponize our past by learning from it and applying that which was learned to form a better life for ourselves, while increasing our courage because we saw how to run the race and won. We discover ourselves through our testimonies and we gain control over the life that we previously lost in the tribulation, in turn boosting our self-esteem. Your mess is the message because it emboldens, strengthens, and establishes how someone else can become their very best. Your mess is the message because it can nurture the possibility of transformation in others, helping them to discover who they are as they relate to your story and are moved by your testimony. Whether you have failed your tests time and time again, as you learn to exercise faith over fear, every step that you take towards, through, and away from your challenges adds depth to your narrative. But every step in-between each mess serves as conditioning to prepare us for the point of triumph. As we share our testimonies someone else's faith rises. Someone in the world is depending on YOU to allow your mess to be their message. Don't be afraid to share your story, you never know who it's purposed to help. #SOW

POWER IN PRAYER: POWER IN PRAYER: Abba, Yahweh, Elohim, Lord of lords, our redeemer, our savior, our provider, our friend, we praise your Holy name. We are grateful for your everlasting love and grace. We thank you that even though we were blinded by our flesh-driven desires time and time again, you still love us. That no matter how many times we missed our exit, you provided another. Lord, we ask that you fine-tune our minds to be in alignment with you. Restore our vision, so we may clearly see every way out that you provide amidst our tests and trials. Father, you know the name of the young lady mentioned in our prayer request, you also know her struggle and innermost needs even better than she. Lord, we ask that you will bring her peace that surpasses our understanding, financial relief, and deliverance from the black mold infestation. We pray that upon her deliverance and comfort that she'll give you all the honor and glory. We praise you for each breath we take, and for the shelter we have. Lord we realize that some may be without a home, food, shoes, or clean water, but for us, you gave provisions that satisfactorily meet our needs; help us to stop dwelling on the wants that we don't have and to acknowledge the needs that you have met. We thank you for clarity, wisdom, healing, and strength. We permit you to be the compass that leads us away from everything that is not inspired by you. Help us to be sensitive to the calling you have on our lives and give us the strength to step into it. Help us to develop an affinity for your Word so that it becomes the permanent atmosphere of our minds so that fear, anxiety, addiction, depression, anger, guilt, shame, and self-hate are dissolved. May your will be done in our lives, and may our trust in you be strong enough that we are genuine in that request. As your angels and Holy Spirit do your bidding on Earth and in Heaven, protect us and them with your recourse as you bind, loose, and cast out the demonic spirits of distraction, destruction, retaliation, revenge, and backlash. All these things we ask in the matchless name of Yeshua, Amen!

HEALTHY LIVING TIPS: Change begins within... As an exercise and weather-induced asthmatic and a survivor of Covid-19, I've found it necessary to limit my workout routines, however, I did not completely restrict them. Of course, there was a time during my bout with the virus that I wasn't able to do anything active but rest in bed, however, even when I was too weak to walk more than 5 or 10 minutes around our pool or inside our house, I made an effort to do some activity when I was able. Once my symptoms began to clear completely, I extended the time, speed, and distance of my walks. To be safe, I have limited my weekly exercise to a daily walk that is between 15-30 minutes of brisk walking with ankle weights, not including my normal walking throughout the day, and wall push-ups. I also volunteer at Mt. Rubidoux SDA Church on the weekends, which consumes several hours of my time doing moderate activity that exercises my legs and arms.

If you suffer from lung diseases like asthma, COPD, or emphysema, and/or have been diagnosed with Covid-19, take caution in your exertion level. Make sure that you pace yourself and listen to your body; whether your strength appears to be 100% or not, take things slow. I'm not a nurse or physician, however, I do have a background in healthcare and am speaking from personal experience. Do not allow your diagnosis to serve as an excuse to be sedentary. If you're Covid-19 positive, remain quarantined and find ways to do light exercise indoors. Or, wear a mask and walk laps around your back yard. If you were positive but have completed your quarantine and no longer exhibit any symptoms, I suggest wearing a mask and taking walks around your neighborhood at a pace that is comfortable to you. Slowly increase your speed, distance, and routine as your strength increases. Pay attention to your body's reactions so that you can recognize your limitations and avoid overexertion. As always, stay safe and blessed!

Courting God (1/17/2021)

SALUTATIONS: What up, what up, what up yall? So, as someone who's struggled with depression and anxiety for many years, I know what it feels like to feel alone. That loneliness often times leads us to find comfort in people or things that we have no business seeking, when all the while, the One we should've been focused on was Jesus. That's what we're going to be chewing on tonight yall... getting intimate with the Lord. It's a new year, a new day, a new hour, a new minute, a new second - a new moment to try something we probably haven't done before, and that's courting God. So, let's get into it. As always, I encourage you to consider taking a moment to review ALL of the AnnouncementsHealthy Living Tips, and other information detailed below, following the Reflections and Power in Prayer, whenever time permits. Your continued support is always appreciated. Keep spreading God's Gospel and feel free to share the Scripture of the Week with the hashtag SOW. Enjoy! **Disclaimer: Production and distribution days of the SOW are subject to change without warning**

PRAISE REPORTS: Aye yall, I am grateful that my coughing is gone and I'm breathing a little better this week. Whether big or small, err'body has a lil' sumthin' to shout "HALLELUJAH" about. So, let's give our Lord some glory yall! Father, we praise you through our struggles, we thank you for our past trials, our current obstacles, and our future triumphs. Hallelujah! If you have a specific praise report, please share, because we “overcame [the adversary] by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of [our] testimony” (Revelation 12:11). **NOTE: All praise reports are shared with reference to your name unless anonymity is specified**

PRAYER REQUESTS: First, I want to just thank you for your petitions on behalf of myself and others mentioned in these requests. Know that as you pray for me, I have already been praying for you. Continue to lift me up for a complete and speedy recovery; that my lungs are restored to full capacity and that the Lord find favor over my spiritual walk and daily lifestyle. Continue praying for one another and thanking Yahweh for the victory while refraining from confessing the problem caused by the enemy; ALWAYS pray for the desired result, NOT the unfavorable outcome (refer to the book The Tongue – A Creative Force, by Charles Capps; you can download your FREE copy here https://rb.gy/niy4go). If you or someone you know needs prayer, let me know, and your request will be added to the following SOW. **NOTE: All prayer requests are shared with reference to your name and need unless anonymity is specified**

PASSAGE(S) – COLOSSIANS 3:1-17 (MSG)"1-2 So if you’re serious about living this new resurrection life with Christ, act like it. Pursue the things over which Christ presides. Don’t shuffle along, eyes to the ground, absorbed with the things right in front of you. Look up, and be alert to what is going on around Christ—that’s where the action is. See things from His perspective. 3-4 Your old life is dead. Your new life, which is your real life—even though invisible to spectators—is with Christ in God. He is your life. When Christ (your real life, remember) shows up again on this earth, you’ll show up, too—the real you, the glorious you. Meanwhile, be content with obscurity, like Christ. 5-8 And that means killing off everything connected with that way of death: sexual promiscuity, impurity, lust, doing whatever you feel like whenever you feel like it, and grabbing whatever attracts your fancy. That’s a life shaped by things and feelings instead of by God. It’s because of this kind of thing that God is about to explode in anger. It wasn’t long ago that you were doing all that stuff and not knowing any better. But you know better now, so make sure it’s all gone for good: bad temper, irritability, meanness, profanity, dirty talk. 9-11 Don’t lie to one another. You’re done with that old life. It’s like a filthy set of ill-fitting clothes you’ve stripped off and put in the fire. Now you’re dressed in a new wardrobe. Every item of your new way of life is custom-made by the Creator, with His label on it. All the old fashions are now obsolete. Words like Jewish and non-Jewish, religious and irreligious, insider and outsider, uncivilized and uncouth, slave and free, mean nothing. From now on everyone is defined by Christ, everyone is included in Christ. 12-14 So, chosen by God for this new life of love, dress in the wardrobe God picked out for you: compassion, kindness, humility, quiet strength, discipline. Be even-tempered, content with second place, quick to forgive an offense. Forgive as quickly and completely as the Master forgave you. And regardless of what else you put on, wear love. It’s your basic, all-purpose garment. Never be without it. 15-17 Let the peace of Christ keep you in tune with each other, in step with each other. None of this going off and doing your own thing. And cultivate thankfulness. Let the Word of Christ—the Message—have the run of the house. Give it plenty of room in your lives. Instruct and direct one another using good common sense. And sing, sing your hearts out to God! Let every detail in your lives—words, actions, whatever—be done in the name of the Master, Jesus, thanking God the Father every step of the way" (read the KJV here https://rb.gy/tguj6d).

REFLECTIONS: In a recent message I listened to by Dr. Charles Stanley, entitled "Hearing God's Voice" (watch it here https://rb.gy/ikweec) I realized that I have been praying for years for God to send me a word outside of His Word that was specific to me; I went from reading the Bible like a random story and lacking understanding in my youth, to studying in the Spirit without looking for what He was saying to me as an adult. Over the years I've read and studied God's Gospel, understanding its meaning, applying certain principles to current times, yet, failing to submit myself and circumstance for consideration as He unfolds His direction. Basically, when I study the lessons in the Bible, I read and understand them but do not relate them specifically to my life. Now don't get me wrong, certain stories do resonate with me, but until about two days ago, I hadn't imagined myself in the shoes of the characters on display. For instance, I was reading the book of Job last week, and it's always been tough for me to comprehend these texts because Job is God's trusted servant. Job goes to bat in God's defense even after losing all of his riches and all of his children in the same day. I couldn't understand if he had lost faith as he gave his winded complaints to his friends, all the while extending his recognition that God is the Almighty and all powerful, or, if he was just ranting with no purpose in mind. So, I decided to read Job in The Message translation, which helped. However, it was Dr. Stanley's message that helped me to submit myself for consideration in those texts.

Yall know I'm pretty transparent in our discussions, this here ain't no different. If you're anything like me, you may spend minutes, hours, days, or even years complaining about how something in your life just ain't fair. You might even be so bold as to consider your handful of good deeds and efforts as a reason to validate how an unfortunate situation is unwarranted, and even more so, question God about it. When I was younger, I blamed God for everything that was going wrong in my life. But in my mid-twenties, which is when I had transitioned from reading the Word to studying it, the Lord had revealed that majority of my unfortunate circumstances were a result of poor decisions I had made without His blessing. I was living my life the way I wanted - walking to the beat of my own drum, and had the gall to question Mr. Almighty Himself as to why any of it was happening. Don't we all do that from time to time? We start working a job we know we had no business taking in the first place, and wonder why we're miserable there. We do something just shy of illegal and wonder how we got caught or why it didn't go off without a hitch. We choose a mate out of lust or infatuation rather than God's ordination, then wonder how we ended up heartbroken or just plain ol' broken in the end. It all has to do with a lack of relationship; we lack an intimate relationship with ourselves - often times we don't truly know who we really are, the reflection that we see is a facade made up of the picture we think we should see, based off societal influence. To get to know and love ourselves though, we've gotta come to terms with the necessity for developing an intimate relationship with God.

My mother and I discussed this topic a day or so ago, how the passage Romans 4:17 "speak those things that be not as though they were" is often times taught maybe not so much out of context as it is without context. Granted, we are responsible to study for ourselves as 2 Timothy warns (read 2 Timothy 2:15 here https://rb.gy/2itrdd), however, we as vessels of Christ bear some responsibility to teach accurately as well (read 1 Corinthians 8 here https://rb.gy/vm1seq). The teaching of that passage without context will have those who aren't well-versed in the Word believing they can claim anything they want and manifest it just like that. However, as you get to KNOW the Lord through intimate time with Him... now definitions may vary in how one defines intimacy, but what I believe that means is uninterrupted time - time that is dedicated and focused on the Lord with a willing heart to receive His direction... you will begin to see and feel a transformation; your appetite changes.

Everyone's transformation is different, for me, the type of music I enjoy has changed, the crowds I am comfortable in are different, and the desires of my heart are changing. You see, when we are self-centered and "speak those things that be not as though they were," our wish list may look a lil' sumthin' like this: "I am going to be a millionaire," "I will be the most famous athlete of my time," "I will be one of the highest paid celebrity influencers," or, "I will own a Bentley and a Maserati." I mean, yeah, that may be a little far fetched for some, but I have heard some affirmations/declarations that were out there. On the contrary, when we're being led by the Holy Spirit, what we're speaking into existence and affirming is what the Lord reveals in His Word. How do we know if what we're confessing is in alignment with the LordBy studying His Word; as we study God's Word - the Bible, we are getting intimate with Him - learning who He is - getting our PhD in Jesus. So when we make our affirmations, they sound a lil' sumthin' like this: "I AM the body of Christ and Satan hath no power over me because I have overcome evil with good" (read 1 Corinthians 12:27 and Romans 12:21 here https://rb.gy/iqg635), "God has supplied all my needs according to His riches in glory, therefore I confess I have abundance, there is no lack" (read Philippians 4:19 here https://rb.gy/48n9ss), or, "I deny the right of the enemy to exist in my life because God gave me that authority" (read Romans 12:3 here https://rb.gy/zgiirt).

Yall see the difference in those things we call into existence when we're led by the flesh vs the Holy Spirit? In the flesh we're worried bout' the wrong stuff, stuff that society says will bring us fame, status, riches, and what we mistakenly assume will lead to less problems and happiness. Reality is, happiness is a mindset, some of the happiest individuals I've encountered were poor and/or terminally ill, and some of them hadn't yet made it to see the age 30. Those who find that peace when society says they should be at their wits end, have found their peace in God, which surpasses human understanding (read Philippians 4:7 here https://rb.gy/3sxx1b). True serenity comes with courting God. Unfortunately, many of us have never courted someone, because society tells us we've gotta shack up with folks and get sexually involved with them before we can determine if they are marriage material. What tradition fails to warn us about are the consequences and baggage we carry for a lifetime when we try before be buy; courting is taking TIME to get to KNOW someone BETTER with the intention to some day marry them. A wife respects and submits to her husband while a husband loves and clings to his wife (read Ephesians 5: 21-2228-3133, NIV, here https://rb.gy/j8qvye); this is the type of relationship we need with the Lord. As we court Him we get to know Him, and once we know Him we're ready to marry Him, then once we marry Him, He clings to us, then we are forever changed in Him.

"But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and ALL these things will be given to you as well" (Matthew 6:33, NIV). "4 Remain in me, as I also remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me. 5 I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing. 6 If you do not remain in me, you are like a branch that is thrown away and withers; such branches are picked up, thrown into the fire and burned. 7 If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. 8 This is to my Father’s glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples. 9 'As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Now remain in my love. 10 If you keep my commands, you will remain in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commands and remain in His love. 11 I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete" (John 15:4-11, NIV). "Let us rejoice and be glad and give Him glory! For the wedding of the Lamb has come, and His bride has made herself ready" (Revelation 19:7, NIV). Can yall visualize that? Com'mon fellas, don't be like I was and read this literally; don't read this message like it's targeting women, put your feet in these shoes and make this message relevant to you... you see it now? The Lord been ready, He's just waiting on us to knock on that door so He can open it. Yall ready to court Jesus? KNOCK! KNOCK! #SOW

POWER IN PRAYER: POWER IN PRAYER: Yahweh, our Lord, our redeemer, our savior, our provider, our friend. We are grateful for your grace, your mercy, your love, and your acceptance. Thankful for your example, your direction, and your revelations. We praise you for every moment of life, for provisions, clarity, wisdom, healing, and strength. Help us on this journey to court you; show us who you are, the secret meanings of your Word and revelations, and grow us spiritually. Father, activate and accelerate our individual desire to seek you first in our lives, grant us a double portion of your favor, and develop our discernment so that we may see, hear, feel, and recognize your presence. Give us divine wisdom and insight so that we may recognize and turn away from everything that is not inspired by you. Help us to be sensitive to the calling you have on our lives and give us the strength to step into it. Make anointing and grace our atmosphere so that fear, anxiety, addiction, depression, and self-hate are dissolved.

As survivor of Covid-19 and an asthmatic whose asthma is exercise and weather-induced, I thought I should share with yall some tips for improving lung capacity after Covid. Here's what I found:
  • Pursed-lip breathing: this is especially helpful for people like me who suffer from lung diseases such as asthma, COPD, pulmonary fibrosis or COVID-19. It's designed to improve lung function and breathing simultaneously, to help you breathe more efficiently. It is encouraged to be practiced until it becomes second nature and is proven to be most effective when you’re focused and/or relaxed. First, sit up straight or lie down with your shoulders relaxed as much as possible. Then, without a mask, inhale through your nose for two seconds, filling your abdomen with air instead of just your lungs. Last, purse your lips like you’re about to blow out a candle and exhale slowly, taking twice as long to exhale as you took to breathe in. Then repeat. Over time, you should also increase the counts from two to four (or more).
  • Box breathing: without a mask, inhale/hold your breath and exhale/hold your breath for equal counts. Now I'm gonna keep it 100, I don't even know what that means. So, the simpler version is to inhale and exhale for equal counts (without a mask), which also serves as a good technique for relaxation.
  • Spirometer device: this is one I know a lot about. This device varies in appearance. The ones I am familiar with are cylindrical in shape, they are clear with a colored plastic tip for breathing through, and an opened colored end for the air to be released through. They have numbers ranging from 60-800, with a metal pole that is filled with small pellets and has a colored attachment that rises as you blow into it; the number at which the attachment rests helps your pulmonologist measure how deeply you can breathe in, and helps encourage taking slow, deep breaths to increase lung capacity. This tool can also help prevent subsidiary lung problems, such as pneumonia.

Break the Cycles (1/10/2021)

SALUTATIONS: Sup Yall? So, I saw that some of you may not have gotten the message from last week entitled New IN Him, as the distribution of the emails was suspended for some unknown reason. If you're interested in looking over that lesson or any of the archives, just check out my blog at sodbytye.blogspot.com; for those of you wondering about the blog URL, the SOW was formally abbreviated SOD because it was initially a daily production. However, as a full-time federal correctional worker, full-time student, and a long-distance commuter, realistic adjustments had to be made. Anyway, as always, I ask that you consider taking a moment to review ALL of the AnnouncementsHealthy Living Tips, and other information detailed below, following the Reflections and Power in Prayer, whenever time permits. Your continued support is always appreciated. Keep spreading God's Gospel and feel free to share the Scripture of the Week with the hashtag SOW. Enjoy! **Disclaimer: Production and distribution days of the SOW are subject to change without warning**

PRAISE REPORTS: Yoooo! I just want to praise God and give Him thanks simply for life; without His breath, I wouldn't be here. We ALL have reasons, both small and large, to shout "HALLELUJAH!" Give the Lord some glory yall! Praise Him through your struggles! We thank you, Heavenly Father, for our past trials, our current obstacles, and our future triumphs. If you have a specific praise report, please share, because we “
overcame [the adversary] by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of [our] testimony” (Revelation 12:11). **NOTE: All praise reports are shared with reference to your name unless anonymity is specified**

PRAYER REQUESTS: Unfortunately, my aunt-in-law's dad didn't make it, but we appreciate all of your prayers. Additionally, she lost her grandmother within two hours of losing her dad, so let's lift up the Guillen family and friends in prayer during their time of bereavement. I'd like you to remember me in your petitions as well, asking God's favor in and over my spiritual walk and daily lifestyle. Continue praying for one another and thanking Yahweh for the victory while refraining from confessing the problem caused by the enemy; ALWAYS pray for the desired result, NOT the unfavorable outcome (refer to the book
The Tongue – A Creative Force, by Charles Capps; you can download your FREE copy here https://rb.gy/niy4go). If you or someone you know needs prayer, let me know, and your request will be added to the following SOW. **NOTE: All prayer requests are shared with reference to your name and need unless anonymity is specified**

BE ENCOURAGED: NEVER lose sight of God amidst adversity… Ponder this: "
The thing always happens that you really believe in; and the belief in a thing makes it happen." (Frank Wright). Here I am.

FEATURED SONGS OF PRAISE: "
Clean This House" by Isaac Carree (you can listen to it here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6uHsbB0-J-Y) and "Strong Enough" by J. Moss (you can listen to it here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x8vxGUfZTUU). I would also like to recommend Classical for Studying Radio on Pandora to better facilitate your meditation on the Word as you study, you can listen to that station here https://shorturl.at/elqz3.

OPENING PRAYER:
Yahweh, please let your presence set the tone for how this lesson will flow and how we will grow from it. Clear our minds and open our eyes, ears, and hearts so that we may be decreased in self and increased in you. Fill us with the Holy Spirit to see as we look, to listen as we hear, to come into alignment with your word and your will, to receive, believe, and apply your truth, that we may be transformed by your intended message from this fellowship and become better as a result of it. In the name of Yeshua, Amen!

PASSAGE(S) – GALATIANS 3:13: "Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree."

**Unless otherwise indicated all Scripture quotations are taken from the King James Version (KJV) of the Bible retrieved from https://www.biblegateway.com/passage**

REFLECTIONS: If yall got a chance to review the Announcements last week you would've been informed about the virtual abuse support group that I started last year; we discuss topics under the premise the curse is broken. I've been praying for God to guide me to the topics this year for our lessons, and I believe that the Spirit led me to discuss this very relevant topic with you all; we're always taught that the reason we're predisposed to certain mal behaviors is because of generational curses. However, the Lord admonished me that "Christ has redeemed us from the curse" (Galatians 3:13). Well, if generational curses aren't behind our current habitual poor decision-making, what is? Generational Cycles.

Generational curses are uncleansed sins that increase in strength from one generation to the next, affecting the members of that family and all who enter relationship with that family. Basically, it’s a specific pattern (e.g., teen pregnancy, divorce, pornography, anger, abuse, adultery, alcoholism, etc.) that is deposited into the family where the family members will be more predisposed to repeating those behaviors because of heightened exposure to it. Every family has its skeletons, perhaps yours has addiction. Maybe yours has a history of domestic violence or sexual abuse, either way, to accept that these habitual offenses are a result of a "curse" is to suggest that we are bound to them. However, Jesus became the curse and shed His blood to redeem ALL (read
II Corinthians 5:21 here https://rb.gy/albtq6). So, yes, we are affected by the consequences of generational curses, however, we are not chained to them. Since the curse was already broken, what we’re really needing to do is put an end to the cycles

Generational curses affect our families by developing cycles that range from teen pregnancy, addiction, alcoholism, divorce, sexual abuse, etc. According to
Exodus 20 starting at verse 5 (read it here https://rb.gy/jhx6is), generational curses and/or cycles – consequences and predisposition to repeated sin from generation to generation, develops by:

  • Iniquity – a specific weakness, stronghold, or something we have a natural tendency towards because of willfully and consistently sinning against God without repentance. Now, some confuse repentance with asking for forgivenessthese are not the same. Asking for forgiveness is merely a confession or request to be pardoned of the wrongdoing, whereas, to repent is to turn away from – to stop that sinful behavior. Yes, we might have a relapse here and there, but the sincere effort to correct that erroneous behavior is what true repentance entails. The iniquities of our forefathers have the power to rollover all the way to the 3rd and 4th generations. Thus, every time someone from a new generation gives into these predispositions – repeating the cycles mapped out before us, it extends the curse, cycle rather, to more generations thereafter.
  • Rejection – our personal sins that we willfully choose to engage in without any plan or conviction to turn away from, is a profession of our rejection of God. Therefore, the repeated offense of our forefathers as well as ourselves, will visit our children, and our children’s children, and their children’s children louder than any other sin because it was deposited into our family line. Remember that includes those who aren’t even blood relatives, because these cycles affect everyone who has close ties to the family, which means the consequences of these iniquities can affect our friends or our children’s friends, our step-children, adopted children, and/or extended family; like money deposited into a bank account, we deposit these cycles into our family line with every family member that chooses to reject God (i.e., turn away and/or ignore His commands), these cycles shall remain.

So how do we break these generational cycles

  • Recognize God’s promise and the power you have in Him. In Exodus 20verse 6 (read it here https://rb.gy/xl4vi6) the Word reveals that God will show mercy to a thousand generations of those who LOVE and KEEP His commands; We have the power to break the generational strongholds and create a new inheritance for our children’s generations and so forth, that reflect God’s righteousness.
  • Stop blaming our parents and ancestors for poor decisions that we make. In Ezekiel 18 starting at verse 2 (read it here https://rb.gy/bx3qa5) we can see that even back then, we were using “victim of circumstance” as an excuse to remain stuck in our ways. But we were given the gift of the Holy Spirit within us to break the generational cycles that were deposited into our families.
  • Accountability. In James 5 verse 16 (read it here https://rb.gy/ihkjlh) we’re advised to confess our sins one to another and pray for each other so that we might be healed. The monthly virtual support meeting is an aspect of accountability; we get to share our stories, and share our testimonies. Maybe you used to be the offender but was delivered. Perhaps you were victimized yet overcame. Even if you’re merely here to simply skim the lesson to see what nuggets can be taken from this feast, you’re taking action to stand in the gap to protect the generations after you from ancestral cycles.

How do we begin to heal from the scars caused by generational cycles, and how do we let go of the baggage we carry because of them? Generational cycles can leave us filled with hatred, resentment, confusion, shame, and sometimes guilt. The key to healing is remembering that we have the ability to choose how to react to the unfortunate circumstances of our past and/or present to pave the way for a healthy future. That means, we have control over our mental and emotional freedom. There are several ways to accept and achieve the power that we’re already equipped with. However, I am only going to discuss the one that the Spirit continues to reveal to me is the key to all the rest, and that's forgiveness.

We must take some time to do a self-check. What are you not letting go ofWho aren't you forgiving, and whyWhat benefit does it serve to walk in unforgiveness? Being angry, unforgiving, and negative are emotionally draining. Let me remind you, I am not talking from a place of hearsay, this is my current journey; I am speaking from a place of experience. The mental stress of bitterness is twice the weight that manual labor puts on our bodies; it affects our mental, physical, and emotional health. Forgiveness leads to healthier relationships, improved trust, diminished anxiety, boosted self-esteem, and overall well-being.
Joyce Meyer spoke about a class where the professor instructed her students to bring in a sack of potatoes as well as a clear empty sack. In the clear sack, the students were instructed to place one potato in the sack for every person they refused to forgive, including themselves. Then, they were to physically carry the sack everywhere that they went for several weeks, give or take (don't quote me on the time frame). Some individual's sacks were fuller than others, and eventually, that weight became a burden to carry; the weight signified how heavy the burden we hold onto because of an unforgiving heart. At the end of those weeks, the potatoes were rotting; the rotten potatoes represent how unforgiveness festers within, rotting our peace. She pointed out that forgiveness is not for the benefit of our offender(s), rather, it is for ourselves; our abuser(s) probably could care less if we've forgiven them or not. While they continue on in their daily routine with no consideration for us, we're dwelling in the wrong that they've done against us. Therefore, it is by forgiving (i.e., letting go of) that thing - that resentment, that helps us to move forward in our lives.

Interestingly enough, sometimes the person we need to forgive is the one we see in the mirror.
MJ said it best, "if you want to make the world a better place, take a look at yourself and make a change. I'm starting with the man in the mirror." Perhaps you have acknowledged the generational cycles in your family, yet, you're also discerning to the Holy Spirit but chose to ignore His calling. In so doing, you feel guilt and shame for the poor decisions you made, thus, blame yourself for your past and/or present unfavorable circumstances. You must forgive yourself for any role you may have played that has led to an undesired result. For instance, maybe you chose to pursue a relationship that you failed to consult God 1st on, or, you remained in a toxic relationship until it caused what seems like irreconcilable emotional, mental, and/or physical damage. In a bible study discussion similar to this, a friend of mine, Imani, stated, "you did the best you could do with what you knew at the time." Take into consideration that not every offense is malicious. Hurt people, hurt people; forgiveness is not for their serenity, it is for our own peace of mind and spiritual comfort. Just because we are old enough to know right from wrong, love, pain, and confusion can be interchangeable when it comes down to the poor decision we might make under their influence. We need to recognize that if we spend our days waiting for someone else to right their wrong, we may die waiting on it. Perhaps you've been spending your years dwelling on someone's failure to apologize, seeking closure from a failed relationship, or hoping to hear of God's vengeance being spewed upon your offender, yet, you ponder why you're still far from inner peace; it is time to LET GO of that thing - that grudge that you're holding onto and FORGIVE. #SOW

POWER IN PRAYER:
POWER IN PRAYER: Yahweh, our Lord, our redeemer, our savior, our provider, our friend. We are grateful for your grace, your mercy, your love, and your acceptance. Thankful for your example, your direction, and your revelations. We praise you for every moment of life, for provisions, clarity, wisdom, healing, and strength. Father God, we ask that you will comfort the hearts of all those mourning the loss of Richard and Aurora Guillen; may they be filled with the peace that passes our understanding. As we continue to grow in you spiritually, Father, activate and accelerate our individual desire to seek you first in our lives, and prioritize everything else in our daily lifestyles according with your will. Help us to exercise our faith in you, and to praise you in every circumstance. Saturate every area of our lives Lord. Touch the innermost core of our beings that we may tap into that which you have already equipped us with. Permeate our excuses so that every generational cycle may be broken through us. Help us to break away from an unforgiving heart and to embrace forgiveness of those who have wronged us, and especially the reflection we see in the mirror. Help us not to be accepting of the distortion we see in our reflections, rather, seeking alignment with you so that the reflection we see of ourselves mirrors yours. Give us divine wisdom and insight. Remove everything within us that is not inspired by you. Help us to be sensitive to what you're doing in our lives and give us the strength to step into it. Make anointing and grace our atmosphere so that fear, anxiety, addiction, depression, and self-hate are dissolved. Relieve us from the familiar spirits trying to maintain attachments to our lineages; release our children, their children, and their children's children from the evil forces assigned against us. Father, may your will be done in our lives, and may our trust in you be strong enough to be genuine in that request.

Let's talk about meditation. If I'm being honest, this is something I have yet to master. I am still struggling to quiet my mind on my own. However, I have found many FREE guided meditations on YouTube, that range anywhere from 5 minutes to 1 or more hours, that have been effective for me. By definition, meditation is a practice where you use gratitude, mindfulness, or focusing the mind on a particular thing, thought, or activity (i.e., heighten your attention and awareness), to achieve a mental clarity and peace of mind.

It is believed that just a few minutes of meditation each day can have positive effects on your health; meditation practices can even be broken down to short minutes of mindfulness and/or deep breathing throughout the day. Here are some benefits of meditation (
Natale, Nicol. “A Simple Guide on How to Start Meditating, According to Experts: With stress levels higher than ever, there’s never been a better time to start.” Preventionwww.ehow.com/how_10727_make-vegetarian-chili.html. Accessed 10 January 2021):

  • Improves our ability to problem solve. Our problem-solving abilities can become impaired when our minds are distracted or we are tired, but meditation can help bring focus and alertness.
  • Reduces stress. People who meditate regularly can avoid activating the stress response, but meditation helps us stay present.
  • May help boost the immune system. When presented with unwanted thoughts or judgments, people who meditate may be more inclined to maintain positive emotions, and one study showed that people who practiced meditation produced more antibodies when given a flu shot vs individuals who do not.

There isn't a standard way of meditation, however, there are 6 main categories of meditation. Those are as follows:

1.    Spiritual - practicing reflection on a deeper connection or purpose.

2.    Focused - the act concentration using one or all of your 5 senses.

3.    Mantra - to recite a mantra (e.g., "Om") repeatedly.

4.    Mindfulness - focusing your mind on your thoughts without critical judgement, and/or turning your attention to that which you are grateful.

5.    Movement - moving the body in ways that bring peace, such as walking, swimming, or yoga.

6.    Transcendental - piggybacks off of mantra meditation in which you're given a custom mantra from a TM instructor.

Take some time to study the categories of meditation, then experiment with them; decide which technique provides the optimal comfort and peace. Once you've determined which style best suits your need, try implementing that form of meditation starting with one minute, then increasing your time as your get comfortable with it. As always, stay safe and blessed!

Here's the thing, I don't know how to do any of this. I'm not tech-savvy, and unknowledgeable to a lot of non-profit resources that might assist in the execution of these ideas, but if you have any helpful information, please share.
