Agape Love (2/14/12)

Greetings Everyone,
Happy Valentine's Day! I swear satan really has nothing else better to do than to mess with God's children, X( angryUGH! Anyway, I just want to thank you for all of your prayers; my cousin's brain surgery today was successful, and she is doing well and even talking. Today's lesson in Black History is on Lorraine Hansberry (1930-1965). She was the first African-American woman playwright to have a play produced on Broadway. Hansberry is best known for A Raisin in the Sun, which was inspired by her family's battle against racial segregation in Chicago. She contributed to the understanding of abortion, discrimination, and Africa. She joined the Daughters of Bilitis and contributed letters to their magazine, The Ladder, in 1957 that addressed feminism and homophobia. After a battle with pancreatic cancer, Hansberry died at the age of 34. She left behind an unfinished novel and several other plays, includingThe Drinking Gourd and What Use Are Flowers?, with a range of content, from slavery to a post apocalyptic future. Continue to keep one another in prayer, thanking God for the victory, and refraining from claiming defeat from the enemy; ALWAYS pray for your desired result, NOT the unfavorable outcome. Do NOT lose sight of God in the midst of adversity, God Bless!

Passage Romans 12: 9-10, & 17-18 (NLT):
"Don’t just pretend to love others. Really love them. Hate what is wrong. Hold tightly to what is good. Love each other with genuine affection, and take delight in honoring each other. Never pay back evil with more evil. Do things in such a way that everyone can see you are honorable. Do all that you can to live in peace with everyone."

In lieu of Valentine's Day, I thought we'd talk about God's love - "Agape" love, which means UNCONDITIONAL love. My cousin Marlene and I were talking today about how easy it is for people to forgive their friends, boyfriends, and/or girlfriends, but forgiving their family is like trying to pull their teeth without novocaine. What's up with that? Why is it so easy to love someone when it is reciprocated? Why is it easy to praise the Lord when everything is going our way, but we are so quick to turn our backs on God and our loved ones the moment things get rocky, instantly forgetting all of our fortunes? Probably because the human mind thinks rationally according to societal norms, and accepts only what is tangible. Therefore, human logic is to give and receive... a tit for tat type of approach. But God's word says in I John 4:19-21"We love each other because he loved us first. If someone says, “I love God,” but hates a Christian brother or sister, that person is a liar; for if we don’t love people we can see, how can we love God, whom we cannot see? And he has given us this command: Those who love God must also love their Christian brothers and sisters." As it translates in The Message, this passage reads, "We, though, are going to love—love and be loved. First we were loved, now we love. He loved us first. If anyone boasts, "I love God," and goes right on hating his brother or sister, thinking nothing of it, he is a liar. If he won't love the person he can see, how can he love the God he can't see? The command we have from Christ is blunt: Loving God includes loving people. You've got to love both." I Corinthians 13:4-8says, "Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous or boastful or proud or rude. It does not demand its own way. It is not irritable, and it keeps no record of being wronged. It does not rejoice about injustice but rejoices whenever the truth wins out. Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance... love will last forever!" This is the national day of love, so if God is Love, then it only makes sense for us to practice agape love, NOT just this one day each year, but EVERY DAY; we need to show an UNCONDITIONAL gratitude to the Lord for ALL the many blessings He has afforded us, and learn to LET GO of the past, forgive and LOVE everyone the way that God so loves us

Prayer of the Day:
Father God we praise you for your unconditional grace, mercy, and love, and for your 24/7 hedge of protection around us. Lord we thank you for Trese's successful surgery and thank you in advance for her complete and speedy recovery. Lord God we thank you for the ability and authority in our words to speak life and favorable outcomes into every situation. We thank you for your spiritual guidance that leads us down a path of righteousness; thanking you that everything that we think, do, and say, may mimic your Son Christ Jesus, and be honorable, and acceptable to you. We thank you for revealing our capability to adopt the principles of agape love, and put them into practice, forgiving those who may have wronged us and loving everyone without conditions. This is our affirmation of Faith, we present this claim to you, and thank you now for the victory, in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen!

~~ Tylesha ~~

"It is better to trust in the Lord than to put confidence in man." (Psalm 118:8)
