All honor and glory to God! I know it's technically "tomorrow," and I should be asleep, but I told yall I was gonna do better this year to produce the SOD consistently during the work week. Anyway, today's lesson on Black History will focus on Rebecca Lee Crumpler (1831-1895), the first African American woman to receive a medical degree in the U.S. Before entering medical school, Crumpler worked in Charlestown, Massachusetts for eight years as a nurse. She worked with other Black physicians treating freed slaves, a group who otherwise would not have had access to medical care. As noted in her book, A Book of Medical Discourses in Two Parts (1883 - one of the first known medical publications by an African American), this missionary work was in concert with her career goals: “I early conceived a liking for, and sought every opportunity to relieve the sufferings of others.” The little that is known about the life of Rebecca Lee Crumpler comes from the introduction in her book. Now, I have a praise report, my uncle Ahmad received a promotion today, so praises be to God for that. And a prayer request for my cousins Desiree, and Tara whose specific need I do not know, but the Spirit has led me to add them to the prayer list; please pray for them as the Spirit leads. Also, remember that I am working on my non-profit organization, focused on providing services to the less fortunate and mentoring at-risk youth, and I will need volunteers. Get with me if you are interested in helping me fulfill my goal in establishing a successful NPO, and I will keep you updated on the status of my organization, thanks in advance for your time and interest. Continue to keep one another in prayer, thanking God for the victory, and refraining from claiming defeat from the enemy; ALWAYS pray for your desired result, NOT the unfavorable outcome. Do NOT lose sight of God in the midst of adversity, God Bless!
Passage Romans 6:6-7 (NLT):
"We know that our old sinful selves were crucified with Christ so that sin might lose its power in our lives. We are no longer slaves to sin. For when we died with Christ we were set free from the power of sin."
Romans 6:15-18 says, "Well then, since God's grace has set us free from the law, does that mean we can go on sinning? Of course not! Don't you realize that you become the slave of whatever you choose to obey? You can be a slave to sin, which leads to death, or you can choose to obey God, which leads to righteous living. Thank God! Once you were slaves of sin, but now you wholeheartedly obey this teaching we have given you. Now you are free from your slavery to sin, and you have become slaves to righteous living." Once we accept Christ as Lord and Savior that doesn't mean we are free to keep sinning and maintaining ignorance of God's laws. No, we are set free from the bondage that slavery once held over us. Once we are born-again, we are then bound to the Lord our Master, who provides us with the ability and freedom to choose good over evil, and the authority in our words to speak life (positivity) into existence, reversing all the negativity that we may have previously spoken into our own lives, or may have experienced as a result of others' power of the tongue. Everyone has an idea or a mentor to which they guide their life choices upon, or build a foundation of beliefs around; with God as the head of Your household, You have a choice to lead a stellar life or one that conforms to the masses of sinful ignorance. We all fall short, but as Christians, it is our duty to GET BACK UP! You are NO longer a slave to sin, so live your life accordingly.
Prayer of the Day:
Father God we enter into your presence in thanksgiving, praising you for your grace, mercy, forgiveness, and everlasting love. We thank you that no weapon formed against us will ever prosper in the name of Jesus. Father God we thank you for Ahmad's advancement and pray for his continued success in his future endeavors. Lord, we ask that you will watch over Tara and Desiree; you know their true need and the innermost desires of their heart, so please bless them as you see fit, providing them with clarity in the midst of their circumstances. Father we thank you now for prosperity, success, and favor over Tylesha's non-profit organization, and all those who will contribute to and/or volunteer their services to the organization's overall effectiveness and advancement. Lord we thank you for the authority to claim and accept victory over the enemy and defeat over sin. We thank you for the ability in our own words to speak life into every situation, speaking prosperity, success, and positivity into existence. We use the power of our tongue to reverse all negativity we once spoke into our own lives, and we bind now the negativity spoken by others, and make their words ineffective against us in the matchless name of Jesus. Lord we thank you for your continued protection and mercy. This is our affirmation of faith in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen!
