Be a Doer (6/4/13)

Greetings Everyone,
All honor and glory be to God! I remind everyone to share any praise reports from yourselves, or anyone you may know of; your testimony may be the encouragement someone else needs in their time of tribulation. Yesterday, a past pastor of mine informed me that he suffered a heart attack and underwent triple bypass surgery. Thanks to God, he has recovered and like me, he too will graduate this year with a Master’s degree. Amen to that! Remember that I am also seeking volunteers for my non-profit organization (for more info visit the website at http://fmbs-inc-bytye.org, the site will be updated soon to include newly appointed board members and volunteers). As I strive toward better nutrition, fitness, and overall health, I challenge you to do the same... Don’t be afraid to reach new heights to achieve maximum results. If you are unhappy with your thought process, your way of living, or just dissatisfied with your overall being, then IT IS TIME FOR YOU TO CHANGE something in your routine; CHANGE BEGINS WITHIN, START YOUR TRANSFORMATION TODAY. You are feeding your mind, body, and soul with the Word of God through this fellowship. So, continue to keep one another in prayer, thanking God for the victory, and refraining from claiming defeat from the enemy; ALWAYS pray for your desired result, NOT the unfavorable outcome. Do NOT lose sight of God in the midst of adversity, God Bless!

Passage James 3:5-8 (NLT):
"In the same way, the tongue is a small thing that makes grand speeches. But a tiny spark can set a great forest on fire. And the tongue is a flame of fire. It is a whole world of wickedness, corrupting your entire body. It can set your whole life on fire, for it is set on fire by hell itself. People can tame all kinds of animals, birds, reptiles, and fish, but no one can tame the tongue. It is restless and evil, full of deadly poison."

To defeat worry and fear:
"I am a doer of the Word of God and am blessed in my deeds. I am happy in those things which I do because I am a doer of the Word of God," derived from James 1:22 (Capps, 1976, p. 152). Reference: Capps, C. (1976). The Tongue - A Creative Force. Tulsa, Oklahoma: Harrison House

James 1:22-27 says, "But don’t just listen to God’s word. You must do what it says. Otherwise, you are only fooling yourselves. For if you listen to the word and don’t obey, it is like glancing at your face in a mirror. You see yourself, walk away, and forget what you look like. But if you look carefully into the perfect law that sets you free, and if you do what it says and don’t forget what you heard, then God will bless you for doing it. If you claim to be religious but don’t control your tongue, you are fooling yourself, and your religion is worthless. Pure and genuine religion in the sight of God the Father means caring for orphans and widows in their distress and refusing to let the world corrupt you." I’m pretty sure we have covered these passages before, the message here always hits home... I chose to surpass the solitary verse from which the affirmation listed above was derived, because the combination of these passages reveals a powerful message; there is a lesson to be learned by those of us who claim to be Christians. On our quest to become more Christ-like, there is always room for improvement.

The verses mentioned above, hold true to the idiom “actions speak louder than words.” Just because we have heard the Word, doesn’t mean we have listened. Just because we have listened to the Word, doesn’t mean we have followed it. In this chapter, we are reminded of our responsibility as Christians, to APPLY the things that we learn from God’s Word to our daily lives. Once you learned that a burning flame hurts, did you attempt to keep touching it? This same application of life is founded in the Word; the Bible is a guideline to righteous living, we should not be attempting to pick and choose which parts of it that we want to accept in our lives. I have heard people mention that “the Old Testament was nailed to the cross when Jesus died,” suggesting that it became irrelevant when the New Testament was written. If that were the case, why are they combined to form one book? Furthermore, one who truly studies God’s Word would recognize that it is a book of redundancy... Individuals from different origins, different time frames, and different backgrounds, are responsible for the stories translated in the Bible, yet, each message remains the same. We were given the choice to follow God (as it is mapped out in His Word), or to follow the way of the world (led by Satan). Our adaptation of life should reflect our Christian sense and values; everything we think, do, and say, should be a direct reflection of who we claim to be. If you say you are a Christian, then you should abide by the Word of God; God’s Word is the foundation for which we should develop the necessary tools to repair our polluted lives. Take a stand today and turn away from the values of this world (money, power, and pleasure), and take refuge in our Lord... When you learn a new skill at work, you put it into action, right? Take that same approach as you delve into the Word of God.

Prayer of the Day:
Father God we thank you for this day, for forgiveness of our sins, and for providing a solid foundation to base our lives upon. We thank you for your knowledge and wisdom, for your peace that passeth all understanding, and for revealing all things necessary for our personal and spiritual growth. We thank you for complete knowledge and clarity of every circumstance we come up against, for contentment despite our trials, and for the ability to use your Word as the stabilizing force in our lives. Father God we thank you for allowing your Spirit to tame our tongue, that the words that depart our mouth are nothing more or less than pleasing in your sight. Father God we thank you for helping us to remain in your Word, and abide by it. Lord open supernatural doors in our lives, and give us a double portion of your Spirit, as we take back everything the devil has stolen. We cancel every plot, plan, and scheme the enemy has devised against us, and declare that no weapon formed against us will prosper. We speak life and blessings into every situation, reversing all negatives into positives. We claim victory over defeat and thank you in advance that our needs and desires are met. We submit this affirmation of faith in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen!

Respectfully,
Tylesha "Tye" Allen
